Police Rule 25-Year-Old Norwich Woman's Death a Homicide

Norwich police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old Norwich woman as a homicide.

Police responded to an apartment at 16 Spaulding Street on Monday and found Casey Chadwick dead inside her home, police said. She died of sharp forced injuries to the head and neck and she also suffered from vascular injuries, Norwich police said.

"She called me every single solitary day....I just keep saying it's a mistake and she's gonna come home because how could someone do that to my little girl?" Chadwick's mother, Wendy Hartling said. "She's 5'1" and she's tiny and she's beautiful. How could someone do that to her? She never even answers the door unless she knows who it is."

There were obvious signs of trauma, according to police who have not said how Chadwick was was killed.

Neighbors said police responded to the area of Spaulding Street and Freeman Avenue around 2 p.m. on Monday and cordoned off the area.

Detectives believe this is an isolated incident and said they are following several leads. Police have not released any information on whether they have identified a suspect.

"We've lost a wonderful person. She was only 25, she was only 25, she had her whole life ahead of her, she was beautiful, she was an absolutely beautiful girl," Hartling said.

Casey Chadwick was just about to resume working as a certified nursing assistant. She was very close to her mother.

Allie Alvarado and her family haven't lived in Norwich for a long time, but she said that they don't plan to stay much longer.

"I wanna get out of here, yeah - homicide now, before it was beatings," Alvarado said. "So yeah, everything's getting worse."

Neighbor Dave Derderian said "it's been a quiet street" and that his parents moved there in the early 1900s.

Detectives were back mid-afternoon on Tuesday to take another look at Chadwick's home.

The Connecticut State Police and the New London County States Attorneys office, are also assisting in the investigation.

Anyone with information about the case should call the Norwich Police Department at (860) 886-5561 or the anonymous tip-line at extension 500.
