State Rep. Proposes Bill to Legalize Recreational Marijuana Use

A bill to legalize recreational marijuana use has been introduced by a state representative, according to documents.

Rep. Juan Candelaria, a Democrat representing New Haven, proposed bill number 5209 called "An Act Concerning Regulation and Taxation of the Production, Sale and Use of Marijuana."

The bill asks the General Assembly to allow the use of marijuana for people who are 21 years old or older.

The legislation would allow the possession, sale, transport, growth and use of set amounts of marijuana to be legal in the state of Connecticut.

According to the Hartford Courant, the same bill was proposed by Candelaria at a General Assembly session in January 2015 but the issue was never raised in the committee.

The current bill has been referred to the judiciary committee.
