State Seeks to Medicate Man Charged in Death of Yale Doctor

Doctors at Connecticut's maximum security psychiatric hospital said a drug regimen could help make a doctor charged with killing a Yale University physician competent to stand trial.

But Lishan Wang, 49, said he's already competent and doesn't want any drugs.

The Hartford Courant reports a judge is considering in a hearing on Monday on whether Wang should forcibly be given medication. A doctor and nurse testified that Wang would benefit from anti-psychotic drugs that would treat several disorders, including paranoia, persecutory ideation and depression.

Wang has been charged in the 2010 killing of Dr. Vajinder Toor outside Toor's Branford home.

Authorities said the shooting appeared to stem from a dispute Wang had with Toor and other doctors while they worked together at a New York City hospital that led to Wang's dismissal.
