Sen. Edith Prague, 86, suffered a stroke Christmas Eve, her daughter said Thursday.
Longtime legislator Edith Prague suffered a stroke Christmas Eve, according to her daughter, Shelly Prague.
The 86-year-old state senator from Columbia was admitted to the hospital Saturday. She is alert and aware, but weak, Shelly Prague said. It was unclear when Sen. Prague would be released from the hospital, but would most likely require several months of rehab, according to her daughter. She did not say in which hospital her mother was being treated.
Gov. Dannel Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman issued a joint statement Thursday.
"We offer Senator Prague our hopes for her full and quick recovery. Senator Prague is a much beloved figure at the Capitol - an outstanding advocate for her district, and a staunch ally and friend to seniors across the state. We send her out well-wishes, offer her family our support, and hope for her speedy return to the Senate.
Prague was first elected to the State Senate in 1994. The Democrat represents the 19th District, which includes the towns of Andover, Bozrah, Columbia, Franklin, Hebron, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Sprague, Norwich and a portion of Montville. She served eight years in the state House of Representatives before becoming a state senator.
