A Waterbury woman stole more than $173,000 in items from CVS stores and sold them on eBay at a steep discount, said police.  And that's how she was able to sell them at a 60 percent discount.

West Hartford police say this elaborate shoplifting scheme has been going on for years.

Dana Giacobini, 41, was arrested Thursday and charged with shoplifting after thefts at the CVS on Boulevard and South Main Street. She’s accused of taking items from the CVS Pharmacies across the state.

"Bottom line, this individual was selling items at what appears to be 40 cents on the dollar which is what makes it attractive to buy but the caveat is still, 'If its too good to be true it is,'" said Sgt. Frank Fallon, of the West Hartford police department.

A search of Giacobini’s Waterbury home found lots of stolen items -- to the tune of $25,000 worth. Right now, the inside of the evidence room at West Hartford police department looks more like a store shelf at a neighborhood CVS.

Her customers were from around the world. "We recovered upward of 40 packages ready for shipping as well as one that she was shipping to Turkey," said Fallon.

West Hartford police say Giacobini is unemployed and has a history of shoplifting.

She’s charged with larceny and being held on $95,000 bond.
