Strong Thunderstorms Moving Through State

Strong thunderstorms are moving through the state and a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Tolland and Windham counties.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for parts of the state but have since expired.

Thunderstorms will continue to roll in throughout the afternoon and evening in the western part of the state and will move east.

Hamden emergency officials responded to scattered power outages in seven locations and minor street flooding during the storms Monday afternoon. As of 6 p.m., United Illuminating was estimating 1,400 without power in town.

Police in Stamford and Fairfield also reported trees and wires down as the storms moved through. As of 5:45 p.m. United Illuminating reported 1,621 without power in Fairfield.

Conditions will be very changeable on Monday afternoon. The storms could bring vivid lightning, heavy downpours and damaging winds.

Overnight, a drier air mass will move in and make way for a warm and sunny day on Tuesday with temperatures around 90.

Our next chance for storms comes on Wednesday and Thursday where scattered storms are possible.
