Tracking Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Tonight

Heavy rain and gusty winds move in tonight.

NBC Connecticut meteorologists continue to track a strong storm that will move into the state this afternoon.

Rain will begin to overspread the state this afternoon.

It will become heavy by this evening and continue into the early morning hours on Thursday.

In addition to the rain, wind will also be strong in parts of Connecticut.

We expect winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts over 40 mph. Shoreline areas of New London County could see occasional gusts over 50 mph which could lead to sporadic power outages.

The third concern is a small risk for coastal flooding. A coastal flood advisory has been issued for southern Fairfield and New Haven counties.

Shallow flooding is expeced in the lowest lying areas along the shoreline.

Stay with the NBC Connecticut First Alert weather team as the storm begins to evolve and forecast confidence grows.
