Strong Storms Moving Through the State

Michael Masi

The skies darkened over Connecticut as a band of storms rolled through the state.

Heavy storms pounded across the state this afternoon, dropping rain and hail on just about every inch of Connecticut.

Connecticut Light and Power has opened its Emergency Operations Center and reports 26,000 customers without power as of 2:15 p.m.

Tree and wire damage has also been spotted in the West Hartford, Hartford and Windsor areas.

A transmission line has been completely lost in Williminatic, according to Mitch Gross at CL&P.  This is impacting power in towns like Hebron, Columbia and Andover, though it is unclear if the loss of the power line is storm-related.
