Students Report for First Day at Partnership School in West Hartford

Today was the first day of school at the new partnership school – Sr. Brigid-St. Augustine in West Hartford and students walked through the door for the first time.

The St. Augustine School in Hartford closed in June and the St. Mary School in Newington closed in August, citing low enrollment.

"They struggle to bring their children to a Catholic school because they have faith in God because they have faith in the church and look what happens," Carmen Rodriguez, the enrollment director, said.

St. Augustine also needed $8 million of repairs needed for the building while St. Mary would have been adding to its increased debt.

Any tuition and scholarships students previously had will be honored at the new partnership school.

Administrators said they are happy to welcome students back.
