Alleged Threats at Valley Regional High School Were Unsubstantiated: Supt.

The superintendent of Regional School District 4 wants the community to know that two alleged threats last week at Valley Regional High School were determined to be unsubstantiated.

The findings were announced at a news conference at the district’s central office late Friday afternoon.

The first alleged threat was reported to be seen on a social media post video on Tuesday.

Supt. Dr. Ruth Levy said a student expressed sadness and while she did not go into details of the video, she said the student never said anything about hurting anyone.

Despite that, state police said rumors began to fly at the school that the post included a threat involving a gun.

Levy said it was all taken out of context and State Police said no threat was made.

On Friday, troopers were called to the school again for similar allegations about the same post. Again, they found no threat was made to any students or teachers.

Levy said social media is not the place to go for factual information.

"Social media, first of all, can be used for wonderful things, but it can be used to spread information very quickly. In this particular case, it had a devastating effect both on an innocent individual as well as on the fear that happens in a community, particularly post a tragedy as what happened in Florida," she said.
