“Superman” Hostage Threat to New Haven Police Department Deemed Bogus

"Superman" sent New Haven police a letter demanding $800,000 in ransom money, claiming he was holding all department substations and vehicles hostage, but police determined it was a bogus threat.

The letter about the hostage situation, signed "Superman 2000," had a return address  for a ministry in Meriden, but police don't think it's connected to the threat. Investigators inspected the New Haven Police Department building and all of the department's substations as a precaution and didn't find anything suspicious.

There were "bizarre drawings" and "annotations" in the letter, so police belive it was written by someone who suffers from a mental illness.

Police are holding onto the letter as evidence.
