For weeks, police have been trying to determine who shot and killed William Castillo, a 35-year-old well-known sneaker salesman from Hartford. He was found on the kitchen floor of an apartment at 269 Main St. on the afternoon of June 30 and pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital.

Thursday night, police made an arrest in connection with the case.

Donele Taylor, 19, of East Hartford, was charged with felony murder, murder, conspiracy to murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery. He is being held on a $2.5 million bond and due back in court on July 28.

Police said the investigation into Castillo’s death is active and no other information is being released.

Police have also released a photo from a surveillance video and are trying to identify that man in connection with the investigation.

At a vigil for Castillo the next night, another man was killed.

As the group met around 9:45 p.m. on July 1 for the candlelight vigil, a fight broke out, escalated into gunfire and Brian Rivera was killed.

The argument, police said, was over a dog and not believed to be retaliation for Castillo’s shooting.

Police arrested Anthony Williams, 32, of Hartford, and Tyshawn Case, 30, of Manchester, in connection with Rivera’s death.

Williams was charged with criminal attempt to murder, first-degree conspiracy to assault, risk of injury and reckless endangerment. Case was charged with murder.
