A Stamford man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.

Richard Rivas Arredondo, 25, is accused of grabbing the girl and dragging her into his car on Pacific Street while she was on her way to work July 25, according to police. Once he had her in the car, he sexually assaulted her, police said.

Detectives worked for the past month to gather evidence, and developed leads on the whereabouts of the suspect's car, a 2002 Subaru Legacy, police said.

Once the determined the car belonged to Arredondo, they brought him in for a photo line up. The victim immediately identified Arredondo as the man who attacked her, police said.

Officers arrested Arredondo Monday.

He is facing charges of first-degree sexual assault, unlawful restraint and strangulation. He was being held on $250,000 bond and will be in court on Sept. 10.
