Suspected Arsonist Nabbed By DNA

First, he escaped from the hospital.

A domestic disturbance and a hit in the DNA database led police to a long-sought suspect in four East Hartford arson cold cases.

On June 16, 2007 someone set fire to 40 Cavan Road, an unoccupied house. Between that date and March 6, 2008, there were four arson cases, but no suspect.

In November 2010, the East Hartford police got the lead they had been looking for years. DNA from the evidence left at the crime scene matched Rahab King, 28, of East Hartford.

He had been arrested and convicted in a New Jersey bank robbery, but by the time the connection was made, he was no longer in custody.

On Feb. 11, East Hartford police were called to handle a domestic dispute. There, they found Kind, police said.

He was sent to a medical facility for treatment and police obtained arrests charging him with arson. But, he escaped from the facility, police said. On Feb. 26, police again took him into custody. He’s been charged with first- and second-degree arson and first-degree burglary.
