Suspects in West Hartford Car Break-Ins Charged

Two 19-year-olds from Hartford have been arrested, accused in a car burglary spree in West Hartford.

Detectives were working surveillance at Farmington Avenue and Ardmore Road after several car burglaries over the past 10 days and arrested Christopher Franco, of 28 Girard St., and Angel S. Rodriguez, of 30 Girard Ave., at 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said they burglarized five cars on Monday night.

Franco and Rodriquez were charged with burglary, larceny and credit card theft. Officers continue to investigate and said more charges are expected.

Police have been warning residents to lock their vehicles after car break-ins in different neighborhoods over the past month.

On Sunday night, Sept. 9, 37  car burglaries were reported in the Fern Street area, around Auburn, Bretton and Cumberland roads, according to police.

Most burglaries have been from unlocked cars in the overnight hours and the items stolen include loose change and small electronics, including GPS units, cellular phones and iPods, according to police.

Police have warned that it only takes a few seconds to open a car door and steal personal property.

Police also urge residents not to leave valuable items in the car.
