Swimming Areas Closed at 3 State Parks

The swimming areas are closed at three state parks because of water quality.

The swimming areas are closed at Gardner Lake in Salem, Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield and Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middlefield are closed.

DEEP tests water quality at 23 swimming areas at state parks.

Rain causes runoff and that washes things into the swimming areas that sometimes cause the bacterial levels to get elevated but sometimes things unrelated to rain will close the beach such as geese.

Water samples will be taken again later today, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmedougntal Protections.
