Swine Flu Fears Close More Schools

Well kids, it could be worse.

Students in Region 12 schools are getting the rest of the week off, thanks to a higher-than-usual absentee rate due to flu-like symptoms.

The schools are closed Wednesday because of the holiday, and will remain closed Thursday and Friday.

"In the judgment of health professionals," writes superintendent Bruce Storm, "this five day (including the weekend) hiatus will help to break the cycle of infection and can help reverse the upward trending of student illness."

The district is also canceling all extra-curricular activities, events and meetings scheduled for the schools.

Oh, and kids, they recommend you practice "social distancing" -- meaning, stay away from each other.  Just stay at home, drink lots of fluids and read a good book.
