A Bridgeport teacher from a prominent Fairfield County family led police on a brief car chase after dropping off his much younger girlfriend in the “ghetto,” cops say. Then he was charged with DUI.

Stewart McKinney Jr., 52, of Fairfield, a teacher at Bridgeport's Longfellow School, caught Bridgeport cops’ eyes on Monday night when he was driving 55 mph in a 25 mph zone, cops said.

"He said he had just dropped off his girlfriend, who is 21 years old in the 'ghetto,'" police told the Connecticut Post.

When cops asked if he had weapons in the car, he said, "Yes, between my legs," the Post reports.

Well, there was another weapon in the car, cops said -- a loaded handgun.

The other thing cops say he has was an open beer in the car. Police say his blood alcohol level was well above the legal limit.

About that prominent family: McKinney's father was the late Congressman Stewart McKinney. His brother, state Sen. John McKinney, is a potential Republican candidate for governor.
