State officials are considering whether to revoke the credentials of 12 teachers who bowed to their principal's pressure to participate in a cheating scheme that inflated students' Mastery Test scores at a Waterbury school.
Mark Linabury, a spokesman for the state Department of Education, told the Associated Press on Friday that its legal department is reviewing the situation and has not determined when a decision might be made involving the Hopeville Elementary School teachers.
Their union and Waterbury administrators recently reached an agreement in which the teachers each will lose 20 days of pay and perform 25 hours of free tutoring.
Hopeville's principal is fighting her dismissal in administrative hearings and a reading teacher also implicated has retired.
Waterbury administrators have asked state officials not to revoke the 12 teachers' credentials, saying they consider the matter closed.
