Teen Pleads Not Guilty to Manslaughter Charges

Police said Sara Ballard had marijuana in her system.

A 19-year-old South Windsor woman has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges in a high-speed crash that killed two passengers in her car.

Police said Sara Ballard was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the sport utility vehicle she was driving left Abbe Road in South Windsor while traveling more than 80 mph and struck a tree on May 25.

Brook Wormstedt, 15, of East Windsor and Matthew Masse, 18, of Vernon, were killed in the crash.

Ballard was charged with manslaughter with a motor vehicle, second-degree, reckless driving, and driving under the influence. She entered her plea in Manchester Superior Court on Thursday.
