Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver in a New Haven crash that left a teenage pedestrian with life-threatening injuries late Saturday night.
A 17-year-old Bridgeport boy was crossing Whalley Avenue in New Haven near the intersection with Ella T. Grasso Boulevard at about 10 p.m. Saturday when a vehicle struck him. He wasn't in the crosswalk when he was hit, witnesses told police. Evidence at the scene supported witness accounts.
The driver kept going and took off in the westbound direction, turning on Blake Street, witnesses told police. New Haven police said the driver is wanted on felony evading and possible additional charges. No suspect has been identified at this time and a description of the driver has not been provided.
An ambulance transported the teenager toYale-New Haven Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries due to the serious collision.
Police are looking for an older model of a white Mitsubishi Eclipse with dark tinted windows that they believe was involved in the crash. The front windshield is likely cracked. Police have alerted law enforcement throughout the state to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
A crash investigation team reasponded.
