Teen Dies After Plunging 15 to 20 Feet in Waterfall Accident

A 15-year-old girl from Marlborough has died after falling 15 to 20 feet at a waterfall at Enders State Forest in Granby on Saturday.

According to an official from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the girl was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at Hartford Hospital.

She has been identified as Amanda Monington.

Police said she was injured while swimming in the waterfalls at around 5:33 p.m. on Saturday.

She fell 15 to 20 feet onto the rocks and was found unconscious, suffering from a head wound, officials said.

Rescuers used ropes and a basket to hoist Monington up the side of the cliff.  She was then taken to the hospital by Life Star.

Multiple emergency service crews responded to the scene and DEEP is investigating.

Police originally said the teen was 17, but DEEP officials said she is 15.
