Bear sightings at the Kane home in Simsbury are not unusual, but the family has been in the spotlight over the last week because of a video posted on YouTube.
In it, a bear climbs up onto the deck of the family’s home and Nishanto Kane uses just her voice to get the bear to leave.
It’s gotten more than 2.3 million views and Bob Kane said that this has been a whirlwind.
A friend took the video, he said. It went on YouTube on Sept. 28.
In the days since, they have been getting phone call after phone call about it, including from Anderson Cooper, who will have the Kanes on his show next week.
There was some mystery over what state the video was shot in, but now that mystery is over.
A lot of the online chatter is about Nishanto’s tone in the video and Kane said the comments do not at all reflect his wife’s reserved personality.
“She’s very much a gentle person,” he said.
She loves animals, he said, and does not want them to be tagged.
As for telling the bear to go away, has worked for the Kanes. There have been about 20 sightings in their yard alone.
According to the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection list of black bear sightings, there have been 2,838 in the state in the last year, 164 have been in Simsbury.
