Thousands Attend Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks Display in Enfield

One of the biggest fireworks displays in Northern Connecticut took place on Sunday in Enfield and lit up the night sky.

Thousands of people staked out a spot around the Town Green to witness the summer-time ritual and 30-minute grand finale to a three-day event.

“It’s really, really good. You’d be amazed,” Scott King, of Enfield, said.

The Enfield Fourth of July Town Celebration has delighted crowds for more than three decades and organizers said they picked the weekend because they know a lot of people are busy over July 4.

“It’s just a nice community event,” Becky Ellis, of Enfield, said.

One of the highlights was The Taste of Enfield, where there was a food stand to cater to almost every taste.

Volunteers and sponsors helped put on the festival and around 50,000 people attended the free event over the three days.

“Any of our activities -- from the concerts people attend to the free children’s activities, teen zone, the fireworks display tonight -- there is no cost,” Scott Kaupin, the event chairman, said on Sunday.

The weather did pose some challenges this year and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra had to play its last number a little early because of rain.

Some people also had to hide under umbrellas and blankets.

“Absolutely, the cool weather, the raining, all of it,” Yolanda T, of Manchester, said.
