Three Women Hurt in Lyme Crash

Three women were badly injured when two cars crashed, head-on, in Lyme on Monday morning.

Two cars collided on in the 300 block Route 156 just after 9 a.m. and three women had to be extricated from the cars.

Two women, between 65 and 70, were in one car. Lifestar took one woman to Raphael's. An ambulance took the other woman to the Shoreline Clinic in Essex. Both have serious injuries, officials said.

A 38-year-old woman was in the second car. Lifestar helicopter took her to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries.

Route 156 was completely shut down and did not reopen until about 12:15 p.m.

State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
