Ticket Blitz on Route 2 Today: Police Union

There will be a ticket blitz on Route 2 and several state roads on Monday.

State police revealed last week that there will be a ticket blitz on Monday along Route 2.

Troop K in Colchester will focus on Route 2 and state roads on Monday, according to the union.

From 12:01 a.m. on Monday, for 24 hours Troop K will focus on Route 2, from exit 12 to exit 27, and state roads in Andover, Bolton, Bozrah, Colchester, Columbia, East Haddam, East Hampton, Franklin, Hebron, Lebanon, Marlborough, Portland, Salem and Windham.

On Friday, there was a 24-hour ticket blitz that started at midnight in Ashford, Coventry, Ellington, Mansfield, Somers, Stafford, Tolland, Union, Vernon and Willington. As of 8 p.m., state police from Troop C had issued 180 citations and 33 warnings, state police said.

Union president Andrew Matthews said Wednesday he worried members would face discipline if they didn't write enough ticket, a fear commanding officer Col. Danny Stebbins dismissed.

State police managers insist they're not ordering troopers to meet a quota and said they just don't want to lose control of the roads.

Some drivers said the extra patrols are a good thing.

“It's important to keep people in line. You know, people get a little complacent. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as they're being stopped for something they're doing wrong,” Lauren Rossi, of Brooklyn, said.
