Torrington Football Player Pleads Guilty to Sex Assault

Edgar Gonzalez admitted to second-degree sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.

A Torrington High School football player accepted a plea deal in a sexual assault case against him involving a minor.

Edgar Gonzalez, 18, plead guilty to second degree sexual assault in Litchfield Superior Court on Tuesday. He is one of four Torrington High football players accused in a sex assault scandal involving two 13-year-old girls.

Gonzalez was arrested in March. He is expected to serve three to seven years in prison as part of the plea deal.

News of the sexual assaults gained national attention after the two 13-year-old victims were taunted and bullied online for coming forward to report the crimes.

Gonzalez will be sentenced on Sept. 6.

Cases against the other three suspects are still pending.
