Travelers Championship Tournament Week Begins

The 2014 Travelers Championship tournament week is officially underway after an opening ceremony in Cromwell on Monday morning.

Last year's winner, Ken Duke, spoke to the crowd that gathered at the first tee at the TPC at River Highlands to kick off the week of festivities and golf.

Among the players making there way to Cromwell is Erik Compton, who finished tied for second at the U.S. Open. Compton, a two-time heart transplant patient, was only appearing in his second major. He finished eight shots behind winner Martin Kaymer.

The 2014 Travelers Championship has an impressive field, including past champions Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Marc Leishman and Duke. Sergio Garcia, Matt Kuchar, Keegan Bradley and Angel Cabrera will also hit the course at the Travelers this week.

Tournament week will be full of activities. Tuesday is Family Day and the Celebrity Pro-Am will be held on Wednesday. Donnie Wahlberg and George Lopez will headline this year's celebrity day. Former Patriots Doug Flutie and Andre Tippet will also play.

Tournament play gets underway on Thursday.
