Trees Stolen from Waterbury School Fundraiser Found

Students and staff at Saints Peter and Paul School (http://www.ssppwtby.com/) in Waterbury are in high spirits after 10 trees Christmas trees that were stolen over Thanksgiving weekend were found.

The trees are typically sold as part of a fundraiser to offset tuition for students and the school lost between $400 and $600 when the trees were taken.

School officials said a witness saw the getaway car and contacted police. On Wednesday night, police found the trees in a nearby garage and were able to return them, with help of the Waterbury Public Works Department.

"Just unbelievable. I mean, I have no words. It is just amazing that this happened," Bart Cammarasana, the co-president of Saints Peter and Paul School, said.

In the last two weeks, the community stepped up and donated money to make up for the loss from the thefts.

"It was a good thing that everybody stepped up and helped the school out. I think it is just a fantastic thing at Christmas time," Jim Breidenbach, a parent from Waterbury, said.

The generosity from the community was so overwhelming that school officials decided to donate to another organization whose trees were stolen and they will donate $250 to the Boy Scouts Troop 608 in Hamden.
