Trooper's Cruiser Struck While Blocking Flooded Street

The heavy rains overnight caused some flooding this morning and a state trooper who was trying to keep cars off a flooded ramp was struck.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. and the trooper was blocking the ramp from Interstate 91 south to Interstate 95 North because around 10 feet of standing water had flooded the road and several cars were disabled, police said.

A driver, identified as Adalberto Rodriguez, 31, of Ansonia, hit the back of the cruiser, as well as the passenger side. The officer, Mike Beauton, and Rodriguez were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police said a flare pattern was set up in the area and the cruiser's emergency lights were on.

Police are investigating the crash.
