The cab of a tanker truck carrying flammable methanol caught fire early Monday morning on Interstate 95, closing all northbound lanes of the highway in Westport and Fairfield between exits 18 and 21.

As of 11:30 a.m., two of the three northbound lanes have been reopened.  At times, the Department of Transportation reported a five mile delay.

Hazmat crews responded to the scene of the crash, which occurred at 4:30 a.m. just as the morning rush was getting under way.

Drivers are advised to take alternate routes: Cars should take the Merritt Parkway, while commercial trucks must take Route 1.

Some homes near the site of the crash were evacuated.

No one was reported injured.
