Two more Connecticut residents have contracted West Nile Virus, according to the State Department of Health.
A resident of Bridgeport in their 50s became ill during the third week of August, and a resident of Stamford, also in their 50s got sick during the last week of August, the agency said.
Both patients remained in the hospital Friday and were being treated for encephalitis.
The department urged people to take the threat of West Nile infections seriously.
"To reduce the risk of infection, I am advising everyone, but especially people over 50 years of age or those who have serious underlying health conditions, to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites," Public Health Commissioner Dr. Robert Galvin said.
A total of four Connecticut residents have now contracted West Nile Virus.
So far this season, mosquitoes have tested positive for the disease in 19 towns. A mosquito in North Stonington tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
The Connecticut Mosquito Management Program has details on mosquito bite protection on its website.
