Two Injured in Hartford Fire

Two people are injured and at least 32 displaced after a fire tore through a building on Vine Street Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to 56 Vine Street around 1:20 p.m., Hartford Fire Capt. Helene Lynch said in a press release. Upon arriving, crews found heavy fire in a 3-story brick apartment building with multiple residents trapped inside.

Firefighters struck a second alarm, conducted rescues, and knocked down the fire. Two occupants had to be transported to the hospital for evaluation. No firefighters were injured.

The building is considered uninhabitable and the residents were relocated by the Hartford Fire Department Special Services Unit, American Red Cross and City of Hartford Health and Human Services Department. The fire marshal’s office investigated and declared the cause of the fire to be a candle that was left unattended.
