Two Injured in Waterbury Hit and Run

Waterbury police are looking for the driver of vehicle who fled the scene of an accident that left two women injured.

 Police say around 6 p.m. Saturday one of the victims, identified as 45-year-old Sonia Velez, parked her Nissan Murano on the east side curb in front of 1722 East Main Street. As she got out of her vehicle and began crossing the street, an SUV traveling in the westbound lane swerved into the eastbound lane and struck Velez. At the same time, Velez’s sister, 45-year-old Elizabeth Velez, was exiting the rear of the Murano. The suspect vehicle grazed the rear door of the Murano, causing the door to slam back into Elizabeth Velez’s head.

The SUV reportedly stopped for moment then fled traveling west on East Main Street.

Sonia Velez sustained non-life threatening injuries to her head and face. She also suffered a broken pelvis. She was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Elizabeth Velez sustained a laceration to the head.

The suspect vehicle is described as a blue Blazer-type vehicle with a male operator.
