Police were called to the scene just after 10 p.m. on Tuesday and found two men lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Several shots were fired, but police don't have an exact count on the a number.
Ashlee Quitno, of Meriden, said she heard two gunshots, tires squeal and then two more shots.
"When I looked out my kitchen window, there was a kid right here, face down, on the bottom of the sidewalk,” Quitno said.
She ran across the street, found two men on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds and stayed with them until police arrived, she said.
Quitno said she and her husband also prayed.
“Watching this poor kid fight for his life it’s difficult, it’s hard,” Quitno said.
Police have not yet released the names of the victims to the media.
On Wednesday morning, family members of the victims gathered to mourn.
The brother of one victim did not want to be identified, but said his brother was a great person and had three children.
"He's just gonna be missed," the brother said.
No arrests have been made and police said very little evidence was found at the scene. The shooting does not appear to be gang related, police said.
Officers will be stepping up patrols in the area.
