Norwich police have arrested a woman who they say struck and injured two pedestrian then fled the scene in Norwich last night.
Amalia Rivera, 36, of Norwich, was arrested and charged with assault 2nd degree, evading responsibilty and failure to drive right. She is scheduled to appear in court on October 25.
Police responded to the area of 380 Hamilton Ave. for a report of a hit and run accident at 7:22 p.m. on Friday night.
When they arrived, they discovered that a 20 year -old female and a 21 year-old male had been struck. The driver also struck a parked car.
Both victims were transported to William Backus Hospital, police said.
The woman is listed in critical, but stable condition. The male victim suffered minor injuries and was later released.
According to a witness, the car was described as a dark colored, four door sedan with heavy front end damage. WItnesses say the car was driven by a back female and fled north on Hamilton Ave. (Rt. 165) towards Preston.
At approximately 10:20 p.m., Norwich police located the offending vehicle, a black 1999 Chrysler 300, and the registered owner on Donahue Drive in Norwich.
Rivera is the register owner of that vehicle.
