2 Dead in Overnight Rocky Hill House Fire

Rocky Hill police have identified the two people killed in a house fire on Walnut Road Saturday.

Firefighters responded to the home at 65 Walnut Road after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor at around 3:15 a.m. Upon arrival they found the home already engulfed in flames, officials said.

The blaze spread quickly through the wood-framed home which has been deemed a total loss due to extensive damage, according to the Assistant Fire Chief.

Officials say it took fire crews approximately 40 minutes to put out the fire.

The two victims were found in each of the home’s two upstairs bedrooms by fire crews, officials say. They have been identified as the residents of the home, Thomas Munger, 58, and Veronica Cossio-Munger, 49. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined their cause of death to be smoke inhalation.

One firefighter sustained a heat-related injury during the incident but has since been treated and released, according to Assistant Fire Chief David Kromas.

The building has been condemned by the town’s building inspector.

State Police responded to the scene to assist with the investigation surrounding this fire. A cause has yet to be determined.
