The United Illuminating officials said they were prepared to shut down the New Congress Substation if it was compromised by flood waters, but they will not have to at this point.

The tide flood waters did not rise as high as predicted and did not flood the substation.

It is quite possible they will have to de-energize it later, but they are monitoring it.

Closing the substation would result in outages to 35,503 Bridgeport customers for as long as 36 hours, according to city officials.

City officials said the outage area would be similar to the outage experienced during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.
