U.S. Coast Guard Academy Has Graduation in New London

It's graduation day at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London and 186 cadets officially became officers at the 135th commencement.

"The last four years have been an incredible journey with them. I am so grateful for the time I spent here and what's to come," said distinguished graduate Jacquelyn Kubicko.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson shared how the world has changed in the time cadets spent at school.

"We live with the prospect of terrorist inspired attacks. We live with the threat of home-grown violent extremism that can strike in a number of ways and in a number of fronts," said Johnson. "What I am telling you today is that the Coast Guard’s mission is as important and as relevant as it has ever been."

Cadets said they are excited for the years to come and the special bond they have made with classmates.

"We've studied for it, we've trained for it, we've imagined it, and now we can embrace it." said Kubicko.
