USA Gymnastics Returning to Hartford in 2013

The USAG National Championships will be held at the XL Center.

The best USA gymnasts will be back in Hartford in 2013 to compete in the four-day USAG National Championships.

Gov. Dannel Malloy joined USA Gymnastic officials at a news conference at the XL Center Tuesday to make the announcement.  The competition will be held Aug.14-17, 2013.

"Connecticut is proud to again be the home of the U.S. Gymnastics Championships," Malloy said.  "The 2013 competition will bring extraordinary athletes to our capital city, and it will give Connecticut a great opportunity to show thousands of fans from around the country all that our state has to offer."

The competition, which visited Hartford in 2010, drew a crowd of more than 40,000 spectators over the four day competition according to The Hartford Courant.

"The U.S. Gymnastics Championships and Hartford are a winning combination," said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics.  "After our success in 2010, we knew we would be back sooner rather than later."

Olympic gold medal winning “Fierce Five” U.S team members Gabby Douglas, Kyla Ross, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Jordyn Wieber all competed in 2010.

Though the field is not yet set for the 2013 competition, the athletes will be fighting for spot on the Senior National Team.

Tickets for the 2013 event went on sale Tuesday.
