Union Street in Vernon was closed for several hours on Monday after a crash involving a teen on a bicycle.

A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured while riding his bike near Oak Street in the Rockville section of town around 2:30 p.m., according to police.

A witness said the teen was hit by at least two cars and police said the preliminary investigation indicates that he was struck by one car driving eastbound and another driving westbound.

An ambulance brought the boy to Rockville General Hospital and Life Star helicopter transported him to Hartford Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

He was listed in stable condition on Monday evening.

Police have not released the teen's name. They said he was not wearing a helmet when he was struck.

Union Street reopened just before 5 p.m.
