Vandals struck at St. Catherine's Cemetery on Rye Street in East Windsor, causing damage to several 100-year-old headstones.

Almost a dozen headstones were damaged in the older part of the cemetery, officials said.

Ernie Teixeira, who belongs to the church, said he got the devastating call around 5 p.m. on Sunday
night.

“It's sad, I don't know who would even think of doing it,” Teixeira said. “My parents are here, friends are here, in-laws are here.”

Teixeira said he thinks there is more than one vandal and he wants the vandals to turn themselves in.

Church officials estimate the damage caused could be a high as $20,000.

If you have any information, call East Windsor police.
