Newington Water Main Breaks Repaired

Water service has been restored to more than 150 residences in the area of Willard Avenue, Dowd Street and Alumni Road in Newington around 16 hours after several water mains broke on Sunday afternoon.

Water service was shut off around 12:30 p.m., according to a spokesperson for MDC.

Intially, homes were not affected, but the service shutdown was extended as crews worked to repair the break.

Three water mains were shut down, including an 8-inch water main on Willard Avenue, a 6-inch water main on Dowd Road and a 12-inch water main on Alumni Road.

Twenty single-family homes on Dowd Street, about 40 condos in the Victory Gardens veterans housing complex off of Willard Avenue and 100 apartments at Maurette Manor on Willard Avenue were without water, according to MDC.

Water service was restored around 4 a.m. on Monday.

Customers experiencing discoloration or air in the water should run water in the bathtub until it is clear, according to the MDC.
