Water Main Break Fixed in Newington

Emergency crews braved the elements to repair to an 8-inch water main break on Garfield Street in Newington, according to police.

That water main and another 8-inch water main on Audubon Avenue were shut down at 3 a.m. for the repairs, affecting 15 homes, Croachley Chiropractor, A&D Health Management Group and OFI Office Furniture Warehouse on Garfield Street between Walsh Avenue and Audubon Avenue and the stretch of Audubon Avenue from Garfield to Bonair Avenue.

All service was restored as of 12:30 p.m. 

Crews also repaired a water valve.

The water mains were installed in 1930 and MDC expected to conclude work by 4 to 6 p.m., but it was finished by 1 p.m.
