The body of a man was pulled from the Long Island Sound on Saturday night, nearly four hours after he jumped off a pier at Light House Point Park in New Haven and never resurfaced.

Police said the man, believed to be a 28-year-old resident of West Springfield, Mass., jumped off the pier.

Witnesses called 911 after he did not come back up.

The New Haven Police Dive Team, the New Haven Fire Department and the United States Coast Guard, along with boats from Milford and West Haven departments responded to the call.

Dive teams recovered the body just before 8:00 pm. His identity has not been released.
