Weather Dampens Enfield Halloween Fundraiser

The wet and chilly weather Saturday was frightening news for Halloween attractions. Some say the wind and rain has scared off crowds, which is hurting an important fundraiser.

On Sun Street in Enfield there are two homes that take Halloween to the next level. One has transformed its front yard with holiday decorations. The other home has created its own haunted house.

Together they’re known as the “Terror on Sun Street.”

“We just have fun doing it. We like creating and we like people to come and enjoy it,” Joanne LaRocque, said.

There are plenty of ghoulish delights in this tradition since 1993. This year’s clown theme in the haunted house was picked and ready to go before the strange clown sightings popped up around the country.

But so far this season something is missing at the “Terror on Sun Street.”

“We were expecting a lot more people than what we have,” LaRocque, said.

Organizers blame the lack of crowds on the weather this weekend and last week. Saturday’s rain and wind kept the spectators away and played havoc with the outdoor displays.

“We’re out here picking up stuff all the time. Our living room and dining room is filled with all the animatronics that can’t get wet,” Laurie Thibodeau, said.

It’s not just that they want more people to check out the handmade haunts. This is also a fundraiser and the suggested admission is a donation of food.

“We do this for the Enfield Food Shelf every year. It’s our fifth year doing it,” LaRocque, said.

“Last year we collected over 2,000 pounds of food. So anything anyone could bring would be awesome because we’re really down this year and we know they need all the food they can get,” Thibodeau, said.

The two spots on Sun Street are open on Sunday 7:00-9:00pm and the same time next weekend, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
