Police warn West Hartford residents to lock vehicles after several car break-ins.

West Hartford police are warning residents to lock their vehicles after several car break-ins have occurred in different neighborhoods over the past month.

On Sunday night, 37  car burglaries were reported in the Fern Street area, around around Auburn, Bretton and Cumberland roads, according to police.

Most of the burglaries have been from unlocked cars in the overnight hours and the items stolen include loose change and small electronics, including GPS units, cellular phones and iPods, according to police.

Police are trying to identify suspects.

Police warn that it only takes a few seconds to open a car door and steal personal property.

Police also urge residents not to leave valuable items in the car.
