After more than a decade in the works, the West Haven Metro-North station is officially open.
The station opened its doors Sunday, Aug. 18. It's part of the New Haven Line and is situated between the New Haven and Milford stations.
The station, located on Railroad Avenue off of Sawmill Road in West Haven, comprises two 12-car platforms with benches, covered watiting areas and ticket machines on each, according to a statement from Metro-North.
Shore Line East trains headed to Stamford will also stop in West Haven.
Other amenities include security cameras, bathrooms, food vendors and a 650-car parking lot.
Daily parking is also available and will be free until parking permits go into effect.
The West Haven station was funded and built by the state in conjunction with Metro-North and the Conn. Dept. of Transportation.
West Haven Mayor John M. Picard said the $130 million project will help generate economic development in the area.
