West Haven police are looking a woman who they said is targeting bank customers in a check scam.

The woman has been approaching customers in the ATM vestibule of a West Haven bank. She asks the victim to deposit a check into his or her checking account and then withdraw the amount from the account and give it to her, according to Sgt. Dave Tammaro.

When the victims cash the checks, they are come back from closed accounts and the bank customers suffer the financial loss, police said.

Police said they have received four complaints within the last two weeks. Investigators believe the checks are stolen and the woman is targeting customers who are young and from other countries.

Police said the woman is 25 to 30 years old, approximately 5-feet 9, 180 pounds and has black hair.
Anyone with information is asked to call the West Haven Police Fraud Unit at 203-937-3958 to help in this investigation.
