Westport First Responders Help Deliver Baby in Home

Westport first responders sprang into action when they arrived at the home of a mommy in labor on Wednesday.

After getting a call from a woman in active labor, Westport police, EMS and firefighters rushed to the home.

Kate Procaccini was found upstairs in her bedroom on the brink of giving birth to her baby girl.

"This is a once in a career opportunity for our guys," Shift Commander Lieutenant Eric Woods said about the team.

The first responders quickly assisted the "extremely brave mom" and minutes later the baby was born in the Westport home, police said.

Procaccini and her baby girl, Mila, were transported to Norwalk Hospital. Police said the mommy and baby are in great health.

"This is the stuff that goes above and beyond typical duties," Procaccini's husband, John, said in a statement. "We are beyond grateful."
